Every dollar donated is put towards the scholarship fund, to benefit dancers experiencing financial hardship.

 

2024 Jamballah NW Scholarship Policies

  1. Scholarships Awards

    1. Scholarships will be awarded for Jamballah NW workshops in the current calendar year only. 

    2. WORKSHOPS: Recipients will be awarded a maximum of six hours of workshops (a reward of approximately $200). For example:

      1. Two three hour intensives OR 

      2. Three two hour workshops OR

      3. One three hour intensive and one two hour workshop

    3. LODGING: Recipients will be awarded a maximum of four nights of the Lewis & Clark food/lodging package available to attendees.  

      1. Lodging will be in a dorm room, in the JamBallah block of rooms.

      2. Lodging/food awards are per-person, and may not be shared with anyone else. 

      3. Food will be in the Lewis & Clark Cafeteria, during designated mealtimes only. 

      4. Meals that are skipped are not refundable.

    4. SHOWS: Recipients will be awarded an All-Shows pass, good for General Admission seating at any of the JamBallah NW 2023 shows. 

      1. Show passes are per-person, and may not be shared with anyone else. 

    5. Recipients are encouraged to apply for volunteer positions at evening showcases (as a ticket taker, usher, etc.) and may watch as much of the showcase as volunteer duties allow. However, scholarship recipients are not guaranteed a volunteer position.

    6. Awarded workshops count toward attendee requirements to apply for a performance spot. However, recipients are not guaranteed a performance spot.

    7. Incidental costs (including but not limited to: food, lodging, and gas) will not be awarded. 

    8. Any scholarship award not used during the festival of the current calendar year will be forfeit. 

    9. Scholarship awards are non-negotiable and non-transferable. 

    10. Recipients may be asked to provide government issued photo identification to claim the award.

    11. Scholarships may not be applied to workshops, lodging/food packages, or show tickets already purchased. 

  2. Eligibility

    1. Dancers of all levels and styles will be considered. 

    2. Applicants must demonstrate a dedication to dance, financial need, and exemplify the festival mission statement. See “Award Criteria” section for more details. 

    3. Applicants must be a US resident for purposes of determining financial need.

    4. Scholarship recipients from previous years that did not attend awarded workshops without proper notice are not eligible. See “Cancellation Policy” section for more information.

  3. Award Criteria

    1. Dedication to Dance

      1. Jamballah NW is committed to awarding scholarships to those who will make the best use of the workshops provided. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a personal dedication to dance, regardless of style, skill level, or pandemic slump status. 

      2. Applicants will be asked to provide a brief statement regarding their personal dedication to or interest in dance, whether it has been continuous over the last three years, or applicant is just now getting back to it. 

    2. Financial Need

      1. Jamballah NW seeks to award scholarships to those who may not otherwise be able to to attend the festival for financial reasons. To determine this, applications will be asked to provide basic financial information in order to demonstrate financial need.

      2. Financial need will be determined by:

        1. Participation in state sponsored benefits, such as food stamps, etc.

        2. Comparing the applicant’s income with federal poverty guidelines as published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines.

        3. Consideration of other situations that may contribute to financial hardship such as pandemic-related financial difficulties, medical expenses, home repair, excessive student loan payments, etc.

      3. Applicants must provide basic financial information from their latest US federal tax return, such as number of exemptions, adjusted gross income, and eligibility for the earned income tax credit. 

      4. Applicants may also provide information about state sponsored benefits received, such as food stamps, etc.

      5. Copies of tax and financial documents may be requested to confirm financial need.

    3. Exemplify the Festival Mission Statement 

      1. Jamballah NW is dedicated to awarding scholarships to those applicants who exemplify the festival mission statement. The festival mission statement is available online at http://www.jamballahnw.com/ for reference. 

      2. Applicants may be asked to provide a brief statement regarding how they exemplify the festival mission statement. 

  4. Cancellation Policy

    1. Scholarship awards are non-negotiable and non-transferable.

    2. Award recipients who are unable to attend the festival must notify Jamballah NW via email at least 14 calendar days prior to the first day of the festival. This is to allow time for Jamballah NW to pass on the award to another applicant. 

    3. Failure to notify Jamballah NW of cancellation within 14 calendar days may result in ineligibility for future scholarship awards. 

  5. Privacy Policy

    1. Information provided to Jamballah NW as part of the scholarship application process will only be used for consideration of scholarship awards (except as noted on the application form). Information will not be shared or used for any other than the stated purpose.
