JamBallah NW Mission Statement

At JamBallah, both organizers and attendees are passionately creative lifelong students, coming from a wide variety of backgrounds; we are LGBTQIA2S+, we are BIPOC, we are holders of many faiths and beliefs coming together with respect and curiosity. We celebrate beauty, true global community, and ethical cultural exchange in joy and love. Elise, the team, and the community are strongly committed to antiracism, and do our best every day to break down those systems that harm others, even within ourselves.

The JamBallah NW mission is to foster true global community through dance. We celebrate all facets and faces of SWANA / MENAHT and American street and stage style dances, together in a beautiful, inclusive atmosphere. We believe in supporting ethical experimentation on the edges of fusion, while maintaining a strong respect and connection to stylistic and cultural roots. We believe in promoting education, discussion, respect and curiosity to strengthen our worldwide community.

We want YOU to feel welcomed and supported! Feel free to contact Elise or use the anonymous 'contact us' form on the site at any time to let us know how we can do this better.

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

As Provided by Lewis & Clark College

Lewis & Clark College purposefully reflects on the history of the land it occupies. Prior to the newcomers arriving in this area, the indigenous land of what would later be called Multnomah County was home to many tribal people. We honor the indigenous people on whose traditional and ancestral homelands we stand: the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Tumwater, and Watalala bands of the Chinook; the Tualatin Kalapuya; and many other indigenous nations of the Columbia River.

It is important to acknowledge the ancestors of this place and recognize that we are here because of the sacrifices forced upon them. In remembering these communities, we honor their legacy, their lives, and their descendants.
