Raqs Assaya is a lively, folkloric stick dance from Upper Egypt that is beloved by Raqs Sharqi dancers and audiences worldwide. In this introductory workshop, you will learn the roots of the dance in a short lecture before practicing the fundamental footwork, spins, and frames. We'll be dancing with straight sticks (not hooked)!
*Only 10 sticks available to borrow during class* (Locals are encouraged to bring their own!)
Difficulty: All levels welcome!
Please bring: Your favorite reusable water container. L&C DOES NOT ALLOW DISPOSABLE WATER BOTTLES ONSITE.
Optional: Dance shoes, exercise towel, yoga mat, or a pad and pen for notes.
