About the producer of JamBallah NW
Elise Morris of Narcissa Productions LLC
Elise is an theatrical fusion bellydancer based in beautiful Portland OR. Founding member and current President of the Portland Bellydance Guild, Elise has been head-over-heels for the Portland bellydance community since starting Tribal Improv at Paulette Rees-Denis's Caravan Studio in '03 and has devoted her creative life to promoting that community. For years she has mainly performed as a theatrical fusion soloist, but keeps things fresh performing with troupes and fabulous one-off projects, and several fullscale bellydance productions in town. Some of her favorite projects have been being invited to be production coordinator and a principal dancer with Ashley Lopez's Allegro Dance Company, the resident bellydancer for Critical Hit Burlesque's Geeklesque productions, and having had the great honor to perform as part of Rachel Brice’s very first Datura Belly Dance Company in 2012.
Elise continues to strive for refinement and inspiration in her dance, and attends as many varied classes and workshops as she can from both local and imported teachers in the Portland area. She recently completed and tested for the third level of Rachel Brice's 8 Elements™ training, and is now holder of the official Practitioner's Certification in The 8 Elements™ Approach along with a whole passel of other amazing dancers. Before starting JamBallah NW, Elise cut her production teeth partnering with Endymienne and Jen Samson for two years on Bellydance Uncorked, a fabulously successful monthly variety revue in Portland showcasing top-shelf, unique and compelling dancers and live music from all over the Pacific Northwest- as well as sponsoring out-of-town performers for workshops and shows. The name 'Narcissa Productions' was contrived in conversation with Jen Samson and Endi Clark, and was adopted as a teasing reminder that we are never as important as we may be tricked by circumstance into thinking.
Currently, Elise balances her massage therapy business and caring for her energetic toddler Ashton with her passion for dance, production and community-building. Elise enjoys long walks on the beach, and Halloween is her favorite holiday. She is endlessly grateful to her dance community, her family, Bianca for helping her start this crazy festival in the first place, and most of all her long-suffering husband for their unceasing love and support.
